Having a valid driver’s license is critical to survival these days. But PennDOT has many ways of suspending a driver’s license, which you may or may not receive notice of.
FTR – Failure to Respond
Many people will get a traffic ticket, or a parking ticket, and forget to respond. This can result in a suspension that is issued from the District Justice Office that has the ticket. Your first notice may come from a police officer, or notice of suspension from PennDOT. The original ticket can be cleared up easily. Do Not plead guilty to driving under suspension for any time when you did not know you were suspended.
Sometimes an insurance policy is cancelled or or there is a drop in coverage. You may not know this until you are pulled over and issued a ticket for 1786 – Driving without insurance. You should immediately take care of the insurance issue – but DO NOT plead guilty to the charge. There is a three month suspension for this offense which no-one has to tell you about!
